Client notes

What people remember after the briefing

These are not scores. They are notes from publishers, membership secretaries, and commercial leads who commissioned a named piece of work.

Lifecycle and churn report

Helen’s pack showed that our ‘loyal’ annuals were leaving in month thirteen, not in the trial. We had been rewriting welcome emails. The leaving sat after the first renewal invoice. I still wish the extract had included pause flags from the old fulfilment house — we lost a week waiting for that file.

Marta Ellison · Publisher, quarterly food title, Bristol

Renewal-season briefing

The briefing was held in our library, with printed bands on the table. We could see which anniversary week historically failed. The prompt list for the phone team was short enough that people actually used it.

Daniel Hargreaves · Membership secretary, learned society, Edinburgh

Cancellation note reading

Two thousand reason boxes, and the share that mentioned ‘too many toys already’ was larger than price. We had assumed price. The codebook argument with Priya was useful; we disagreed on ‘moving house’ until we read the sample together.

Saira Begum · Commercial lead, children’s box programme, Manchester

Board chart pack

The charts sat next to the management accounts without looking like a different house. Source notes on each page stopped a long argument about the paid definition. I would have liked a thirteenth chart for print versus digital; they declined because the extract mixed the two.

Owen Pritchard · Finance, regional newspaper group, Cardiff

Cohort cut

I run this from a spare room. James still treated the start months with the same care he would a large title. The six-month survival for winter joiners was worse than I had felt in my bones. The walkthrough was forty-five minutes and then he left us alone — which I preferred.

Francesca Bell · Owner, yarn club, Norwich

A longer account: the Bristol quarterly

Marta’s title had three years of Shopify-adjacent checkout records stitched to an older fulfilment house. The first extract lacked pause flags. We stopped the clock rather than invent a pause rate. When the file arrived, month-thirteen leaving among annuals was the finding that moved the commercial meeting: the welcome series was not the leak.

The reservation she still names is the lost week. That is fair. Incomplete files delay a report more often than charting does. If you commission us, budget time for the person who can actually export events.

Newspapers and magazines stacked on a table
Print titles still live and die on renewal invoices, not on a single homepage metric.
